In the year Ad Stella 110, the Vanadis Institute created an advanced man–machine system called GUND, which would advance humanity’s desire to go to the stars. But after the world learned it was used in the development of Mobile Suits using the GUND Format after Ochs Earth acquired the company and of its damage to its subjects, the Mobile Suit Development Council Front ordered a permanent ban on the development of the GUND-based technology, resulting in the destruction of the satellite research facility Fólkvangr, killing everyone in it. Only two people narrowly survived: Mobile Suit pilot Elnora Samaya and her daughter Ericht Samaya, along with the prototype GUNDAM.
